Marymount’s ELA department invites students to consider point of view, discuss universal themes, and highlights diverse voices. Every year, students read and write short stories, develop essay writing skills, participate in public speaking, and develop analytical skills required for the reader response. Marymount participates in Speak up Montreal, a now province-wide annual competition which originated as a Marymount IB student’s personal project. Creative projects such as spoken word empowers student creativity and self-expression, equipping them with the necessary skills to clearly articulate their own ideas while remaining open to alternative perspectives and learning from stories of others.
